About Submissions and the Review Process

All NDSU students are invited to submit creative written and visual works for possible publication.

All students in grades 7 through 12 from area schools are also invited to submit their work.

  • All submissions are reviewed “blind”: the editors who read or view the submissions do not know the identity of the people who have submitted them. While members of the staff may submit their own materials for review, those materials are always reviewed by others who do not know who submitted them.
  • When a submission is sent to the NDSU.WriteStuff@ndsu.edu email address, it is received by our Submissions Editor. The Submissions Editor is charged with letting submitters know that their submissions have been received. She also provides copies of the submissions—without the names of the submitters—to the proper editorial groups for review.
  • Final selection of materials to be published will be based on the quality of the submission and how well it meets the staff’s vision for the current issue. Limitations on space in the new issue is also a consideration.
  • The editorial groups reviewing the NDSU submissions expect to have made their selections by about April 15, and they will notify all submitters of acceptance (or non-acceptance) as soon as they have completed the process.
  • All submitters will receive feedback from the editors on at least one of the items that they submit.

  • The editorial group for the Next Generation (grades 7 through 12) expects to have made their selections by April 22, and they will notify all submitters of acceptance (or non-acceptance) as soon as they have completed the process.
